APRIL 10TH OF ALMOST I YEAR AGO, WAS A DARK VIOLENT DAY FOR ONE HOWARD COUNTY CITIZEN WHO WAS PAYING TRIBUTE TO HIS DECEASED FATHER-

23 Year old Melvin Yates, a licensed barber and a father, was brutally beaten by Howard County Police officers. The trouble started after someone called the police to break up a fight at the Cazabe Restaurant in Jessup, Maryland, where Yates was hosting a memorial service for his deceased father.

Yates' lawsuit alleges that once he was handcuffed, the brutality started. The 23-year-old man says police officers, Ryan Thomas and Sean Kent, slammed his face into the pavement, punched him, kicked him, and choked him to the point of near unconsciousness. Adding insult to injury, it happened in front of his mother. Yates believes he was beaten, because he is African-American.

COP WATCH IS PROPOSING TO CHIEF MCMAHON THAT, AT THE VERY LEAST, THE OFFICER GUILTY OF, AFTER CUFFING A CITIZEN, WHO IS ON THE GROUND IN A DEFENSELESS POSITION, KICKING HIM IN THE FACE, REPEATEDLY SLAMMING HIS HEAD INTO CONCRETE, WHILE TAUNTING HIM WITH THE UGLIEST OF RACIAL EPITHETS, IS UNDESERVING OF SUCH AN HONOR AS HOWARD COUNTYS OFFICER OF THE MONTH.

CROWNING KENT, AS YOU HAVE, IS UNEQUIVOCALLY, THE WORST SIGNAL TO SEND TO OUR VERY DIVERSE COMMUNITY OF CITIZENS, AND A SOMBER SIGNAL TO SEND TO THE NEW UP AND COMING GENERATION OF POLICE OFFICERS, WHO NEED TO, NOT EMULATE THIS CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR, BUT LEARN FROM OUR MISTAKES SO AS NOT TO REPEAT THEM. JUST LIKE A BANK ROBBER OR CHILD MOLESTER DOESN'T WANT TO BE PHOTOGRAPHED, FOR FEAR OF BEING IDENTIFIED AT A FUTURE DATE, THE LAW BREAKING THUGS OF "LAW ENFORCEMENT," DON'T WANT TO BE IDENTIFIED BY THE PUBLIC, AT A FUTURE DATE. HAVING THEIR PICTURE TAKEN REMOVES THE CLOAK OF SECRECY THAT GOVERNMENT HAS PROVIDED THEM TO WAGE WAR ON THOSE INDIVIDUALS AND DEMOGRAPHIC GROUPS, OF WHOM THEY PERSONALLY DISAPPROVE, AND FOR REASONS THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH MATTERS OF LAW.

THUGS IN UNIFORM FROM OUTSIDE HOWARD COUNTY

THE STAIRWAY OF HELL!

I remember a police officer, once, who told me about one of his favorite perks of being in law enforcement, dubbed by his fellow officers as "the stairway of hell,"
(and you can be sure it's not a follow up to led zeppelins stairway to heaven)
He describes this stairway, in his particular police station, where there is a camera monitor high on the wall, which the public believes is observing all police activity.

"What the public doesn't know is that just inside the entry to the stairs, and to the right, is a switch, much like a light switch in your home, which when flipped turns the camera off."

For select citizens who are being escorted by one or more officers, the switch is flipped and the camera is disabled. The unsuspecting citizen, who is usually handcuffed, (surprised?),
and sometimes even shackled, is thinking he's just being transported to another area in the station, is stood at the top of the stairs, and told by the officers to just wait. Before the victim knows what happened, he receives a sharp bump from behind, which is sometimes accompanied by the other officers foot in front of his, and with his hands cuffed behind him, the poor sap is unable to break his fall as he's thrown face first down the stairway, resulting in significant bruising and injury.

The honorable police officer then utters the obligatory, but genuinely disingenuous,

"Oh, I'm so sorry. My mistake. Are you OK?"

and you know by the sparkling in his eyes, and the irrepressible grin on his face, he's telling the truth.
This really is one of his favorite perks of his career in law enforcement.
